Yeah Baby I’m a classic Man

So I tried my hand at a fondant cake again. ¬†“I refuse to be defeated!” ¬†After¬†watching a Jessica Harris Craftsy class for the sixth time, I felt confident to try and overcome my kryptonite. ¬†For this baby boy shower cake the point here was to achieve¬†sharp edges and not have any elephant skin(dried, cracking) on my fondant. ¬†In order to do that I prepared my cake with a crumb coat and frosting of ganache. ¬†Then I¬†applied a light coat of shortening to the cake after the¬†ganache was setup. ¬†Now for the fondant, ¬†I rolled it out and covered my cake making sure it was smooth with no air bubbles. ¬†To get the sharp edges I used an acrylic plate on top of my cake and pushed my fondant up. ¬†For the fondant bowtie I used a simple tutorial, let it dry then inserted it into the cake. ¬†As for the Jessica Harris¬†cake classes I would¬†recommend them for any one who wants to take¬†their cake skills to the next level.
